Today, the web has become the de facto platform for safely distributing applications on a wide range of devices. Unfortunately, this comes at a huge complexity cost, as the base layers of the web were never designed for that purpose.
With Orca, we propose to “flip the web stack” and rethink the base layer as a local-first sandboxed execution environment, on top of which we can build transclusion, hyperlinking and dynamic document models at a much lower cost. We believe this has the potential to massively simplify the development of portable, composable applications and give users more agency and freedom over their use of computers. You can read more about Orca’s motivations and roadmap in our first post.
The Orca project is lead by Martin Fouilleul and supported by a community of contributors and users. You can join us on Discord to chat about the project, or subscribe to our newsletter to get the latest updates.
